Mark B. Pochapin, MD, FACG, FASGE, FACP, is the Sholtz-Leeds Professor of Gastroenterology, Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine / NYU Langone Health. Dr. Pochapin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering degree and received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center/ Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In his clinical and research efforts, Dr. Pochapin is dedicated to the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and to quality in endoscopy. As an educator, Dr. Pochapin has received over 30 teaching awards, including the Physician of The Year award, the Humanism in Medicine award and twice receiving the Elliot Hochstein Teaching Award, the distinguished honor given at Weill Cornell Medical College by vote of the graduating class. Dr. Pochapin was recognized for his clinical excellence and leadership with the 2019 Master Clinician Award from NYU Langone Health. For over 25 years, Dr. Pochapin has been a leader in the US national effort to increase colorectal cancer screening and promote quality in colonoscopy. He has held leadership positions with the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) and New York Citywide Coalition for Colon Cancer Control (C5) and served on the Board of Directors of the GI Quality Improvement Consortium (GIQuIC). Dr. Pochapin publishes on areas such as colorectal cancer incidence and screening, quality metrics, and technologies to enhance quality in endoscopy. Dr. Pochapin currently hosts two US national weekly radio broadcasts called "Chiefs Rounds" and "Medicine Grand Rounds" on SiriusXM Doctor Radio, connecting the listening public with leading medical experts and valuable health information. Dr. Pochapin is a past president of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). For his national leadership during the COVID pandemic, in 2020 he became the recipient of a special recognition called the Beacon Award for outstanding leadership in extraordinary times" by the American College of Gastroenterology.
